Bible verses about comfort in grief
To sit with someone who is going through something, or for when the one going through it is you.
It is hard to know what to say to someone going through something. These passages help precisely because they do not explain the pain or justify it. They just come close.
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart” does not say he fixes them quickly. It says where he is. And in the beatitudes Jesus does not call blessed those who are not mourning, but those who mourn, because they will be comforted.
If you are going to sit with someone, one of these images usually says more than a long message. And if the one going through it is you, you do not have to do anything with them.

Job 35:10 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
Isaiah 61:1 “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.”
Isaiah 54:10 “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
